Vampire Face Lift

Also known as Vampire Facial or Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy is a nonsurgical skin rejuvenation procedure which offers restoration of the shape, improved tone and texture and new and younger tissue (literally).

PRP therapy is a procedure that has been used successfully for years to heal sports related injuries and non-healing wounds. It is now becoming a treatment of choice for many to improve the appearance of wrinkles, scars, sun damage and dark circles under their eyes.

PRP is a natural product created from your own body. A small amount of blood is drawn and placed in a sterile tube containing a specific anticoagulant that is spun down in a centrifuge to separate the different components of the blood. Red and white blood cells are divided from the platelets and the plasma (the clear fluid). This plasma now contains a higher than normal number of platelets and is called ‘platelet rich plasma’, or PRP.

The treatment is relatively safe because of its organic nature and it works. It uses plasma taken from the patient’s own blood instead of chemicals injected into the body. The possibility of side effects is practically nonexistent because the body is unlikely to reject its own product.

The principle is to create a supra-therapeutic levels of subject’s own platelets, nearly 3-5 times above baseline values, allowing the growth factors to be released and stimulate the normal wound healing process, similar to the way the skin heals after a scrape.

The procedure can sound a little too much for some people however, you can simply visit us to inquire about the procedure and what it entails in person to feel comfortable going through with it.

What is PRP?

PRP is platelet rich plasma which we get from drawing your blood, spinning it down and extracting white blood cells and red blood cells, which leaves us with the platelet rich portion of your plasma. This plasma has a variety of benefits, like growth factors that are nutrient-rich and help stimulate the production of collagen.

What is a Vampire Facial?

The Vampire Facial is microneedling the PRP into the face, neck and décolletage.

What are the main benefits?

It improves skin texture and helps with leather-y fine lines, removes photo damage which helps with hyperpigmentation, increases production and synthesis of new collagen, accelerates wound healing and helps improve acne scarring, improves existing collagen resulting in improved skin tone and contour to give a glowy and dewy appearance to the skin and helps minimize pore sizes.

What system do you use?

Do your research! Some medical spas use lab tubes instead of the correct equipment so they only achieve 1.8 times the normal platelet concentration. We use the Eclipse system which achieves 5-6 times the normal platelet concentration resulting in a much more effective treatment.

How many treatments does one have to go through to achieve optimal results?

If you have any big issues you want to address, like hyperpigmentation and acne scarring, we recommend 2-3 treatments, 30 days apart.
After that, the maintenance is one treatment every 6-12 months, depending on the health of your skin.

What are the risks and aftercare for the vampire facial?

Risks are pretty minimal. You can expect bruising and swelling if we are injecting. You will be red for 24-36 hours. It should look like we are sunburned.
Right after treatment, you will leave the treatment on for 2-3 hours. After that, you can wash after with gentle cleanser. We encourage no makeup after for 24 hours but use a dermal repair cream, such as the SkinMedica Dermal Repair Cream and a tinted SPF, such as the SkinMedica Essential Defense Mineral Shield Broad Spectrum sunscreen. In 3-5 days, your skin will feel amazing!

Who would you recommend this treatment to?

Anyone can be a candidate. Anyone with any of those issues that PRP addresses, I’m 26 for prevention purposes, I don’t have a lot of concerns but I know the benefits it and I want to increase the collagen layer of my skin. The beauty community is getting smarter and thinking more about prevention than treatment! I have done 22-60+. Anyone who wants beautiful flawless skin is a candidate!

Why do you advise not have this treatment?

We don’t recommend this treatment for anyone with poorly controlled diabetes, on blood thinners, currently immune-compromised, in poor health, pregnant, on Accutane, or if you currently have cystic acne.

How does the hair restoration work?

Platelets have about 6-7 different growth factors. Adding growth factors helps kick start the dormant hair follicles where the hair loss appears. This increases the hair density and thickness.
Many people are on daily medications that help with hair loss but they can negative affect our system with side effects. (Herbals, biotin) etc., and many of those medication are taken life-long. Rogain and other topical creams are life-long and you have to use it every day. There is no scarring from PRP unlike hair transplants.
Not everyone is a candidate for PRP hair restoration. We recommend coming in for a consult ahead of time to create a customized treatment plan for you.
We usually recommend 4 treatments for 30 days, women 3-4 treatments for every 30 days. Maintenance should be done every year.

Does the hair restoration hurt?

Local anesthetic is used in the head to increase comfort. After expect mild swelling and mild headache that should resolve in 24 hours.

What are the risks and the aftercare for hair restoration?

You will be swollen and have a mild headache for up to 24 hours. You can wash your hair right away after the treatment.

What other treatments can be done with PRP?

Other treatments that are evidence-based, which means there is research on them, are using PRP for dark pigmentation under the eyes and other facial injections, volume loss and poor skin quality in mid to lower face by mixing PRP with hyaluronic acid fillers, tightening the skin, diminishing stretch marks, wound healing, acne scarring and improving skin quality in the décolletage and hands.

What should the guest have done before any PRP treatment?

We will be extracting 10-22 ccs of blood so stay hydrated, eat before and come with clean washed hair for hair restoration or a clean face for the vampire facial
Avoid blood thinning medications and supplements like ibuprofen, Excedrin, Aleve, Vitamin E, Fish oil, Aspirin, etc., 7-14 days before treatment.
